Twisting a key in a lock is slowly disappearing from the past, and many new vehicles now have keyless entry. You can unlock your vehicle by pressing the button on the fob or grasping the door handle. This allows you to keep your hands free and not to dig around in your bag looking for keys.
The system works when the car sends out a radio signal which is then picked up and then sent back to the key fob. The car will then detect this and either unlock the doors or turn on the interior lights (if the system is configured to do this).
Some variations of keyless entry don't use a fob at all, instead using an app on a smartphone which can send an electronic signal directly to the car. This is sometimes known as a phone-as-key, or a digital key and could be a good way to give other drivers access to the car without needing to hand over keys.

If the immobilizer has been activated the immobilizer will flash a warning light on the dashboard. This is a serious issue and you should consult an expert for diagnosis.
Modern keyless entry systems are protected by a variety of sensors, one of which is the door handle detector. The switches' contacts are connected to the power supply and then connected to a motor that actually winds the switch. The motor spins an gear that engages the teeth of the gear on a huge plate when the window is raised. When the window is lower, the gear is disengaged and the handle is able to move freely.
